Artist Statement
I love the chaos of light. I love the passions of life. Between the extremes of light and the absence of light is where the process of life occurs. Within the boundaries of chaos and stasis is where existence takes place: the information. I revel in the act of deciphering that information for myself. I've used paint, ink, pastel, and now the camera.
There is so much to experience in a grain of sand, a child, two people, a thousand birds, or a single ray of light. Each bespeaks of its own existence and of all our existences. My own interpretation of that is simply my own, a starting point. Your interpretation creates the counterpoint; the differences create the art.
Brief History
I began my career as a fine artist in 1981, studying composition, color, and light through the use of watercolors, oils and dry pastels. In 1990 I started my own business providing graphic design, desktop publishing and editing services to Western Washington University and small businesses in Bellingham, WA. After a few years I moved to New York City where I was Art Production Manager at Fitness magazine.
I built my first website in 1995 while living in New York. Since that time I have created websites for The PGA Tour, Microsoft, Columbia Sportswear and a wide range of smaller businesses.
In 1996 I left New York for Kansas City, where I again ran my own business offering both web and print design/production services. From there I was hired by Saltmine Creative in Seattle as a Designer/Programmer. I eventually began working as a vendor to Microsoft designing their BackOffice suite of websites, the Microsoft.com homepage and other lower level sites. I retuned to my hometown of Bellingham in 1999, continuing my vendor relationship with Microsoft while re-establishing my design business.
Around the same time I rekindled my passion for the arts and discovered that the camera offered a way to capture, more immediately, the sensations I experienced while driving the countryside. As digital imaging technology developed I began to incorporate photography into my design business more and more. I now offer commercial, portrait, wedding, performance, and art photography as well as print and web design services to a wide variety of clientele.
